MOLUCELLA IRISH GREEN BELLS

Use: Cut flower, focal flower, architectural accent, fresh and dried arrangements
Height: 60–90 cm
Spacing: 25–30 cm between plants
Transplant to finish: 12–16 weeks
Transplant carefully after the danger of severe frost has passed. Avoid disturbing the taproot, as plants resent root disturbance. Pinching is not recommended, as it reduces the quality of the main flowering stem.
Photoperiod: Facultative long-day—flowers more rapidly under longer day lengths.
Exposure: Full sun (6–8+ hours daily)
🌾 Soil & Fertility
Soil: Well-drained, fertile loam or sandy loam
pH range: 6.5–7.5
Fertiliser: Apply a balanced fertiliser every 2–3 weeks during active growth.
Avoid excessive nitrogen, which encourages lush foliage and weak, floppy stems.
💧 Watering
Keep soil evenly moist during establishment.
Once established, water deeply when the top 2–3 cm of soil becomes dry.
Avoid overwatering, as plants dislike soggy soils and are prone to root diseases.
✂️ Harvesting & Post-Harvest
Harvest stage: Harvest when the green bells are fully developed and firm, with the small white flowers inside just beginning to open.
Stem length: 60–90 cm ideal for bouquets.
Post-harvest:
Remove lower foliage.
Place immediately into clean water with floral preservative.
Vase life is typically 7–10 days.
Excellent for drying—hang stems upside down in a dark, dry, well-ventilated area to retain colour and form.
