These are small seedling plugs (grown in 288 size trays)

Life Cycle: Annual (grown as a seasonal cut flower)

Use: Premium cut flower, focal flower, wedding flowers, bouquets and floral design

Height: 60–90 cm

Spacing: 15–20 cm between plants

Transplant to finish: 16–24 weeks

Transplant carefully once plants are well rooted. Lisianthus is slow to establish and dislikes root disturbance. Plant gently and avoid damaging the root system after planting.

Pinching: Not usually required. Croma series varieties are bred to naturally produce branching stems and multiple flowers. Pinching can delay flowering and reduce stem quality.

Staking: Recommended. Install support netting early while plants are young to keep stems straight and prevent lodging as flower buds develop. Support is especially useful in fertile soils or exposed areas.

Frost: Tolerates light frost once hardened off. Protect young seedlings and new transplants from hard or prolonged frost.

Photoperiod: Facultative long-day—longer days encourage faster flowering, although temperature has a major influence on crop timing.

Exposure: Full sun (6–8+ hours daily)

🌾 Soil & Fertility

Soil: Well-drained, fertile loam or quality potting mix

pH range: 6.3–6.8

Fertilizer: Feed regularly with a balanced fertiliser at moderate rates during active growth.

Maintain good calcium and magnesium levels to support strong stems and high-quality flowers.

Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can cause soft growth, weak stems, and reduced flower quality.

💧 Watering

Keep evenly moist throughout growth and flowering.

Allow the surface of the soil to dry slightly between waterings.

Avoid waterlogged conditions, as lisianthus is sensitive to root diseases.

Water at the base where possible to keep foliage dry.

🧼 Hygiene & Disease Prevention

Common issues: Botrytis, Fusarium wilt,

Provide excellent airflow, avoid overwatering, and remove damaged foliage promptly.

✂️ Harvesting & Post-Harvest

Harvest stage: Harvest when 1–2 flowers are fully open and additional buds show strong colour.

Stem length: 50–80 cm ideal for bouquets.

Post-harvest:

  • Remove lower leaves.

  • Place immediately into clean water with floral preservative.

  • Vase life is typically 10–14 days.

  • Multiple buds open sequentially, extending vase display.
