Limonium sinensis Misty Blue is a fine dainty flower super popular in flower arrangements due to its unique little spray of flowers adding a little texture to a bunch of flowers. The flower can also be used in dry flower arrangements. The plant produces about 10 flowering branches during the first cut and 35 - 60 stem annually
These plants are grown from tissue culture and are larger plugs
Life Cycle: Perennial (often grown as an annual cut flower crop)
Use: Cut flower, filler flower, dried flower, bouquet texture and colour
Height: 70–100 cm
Spacing: 20–30 cm between plants
Transplant to finish: 14–18 weeks
Transplant after the danger of severe frost has passed. Plants establish quickly and produce multiple flowering stems throughout the season.
Pinching: Not recommended. Plants naturally produce well-branched flowering stems.
Staking: Usually not required, although support netting is recommended in windy locations or for quality cut flower production to maintain straight stems.
Frost: Tolerates light frosts once established. Protect young seedlings and transplants from heavy or prolonged frost.
Photoperiod: Facultative long-day—flowers earlier and more abundantly under longer day lengths.
Climate: Best suited to cool temperate and Mediterranean climates. Thrives in full sun with excellent drainage and performs best in warm, dry summers.
Exposure: Full sun (8+ hours daily)
🌾 Soil & Fertility
Soil: Well-drained, light, sandy or loamy soil
pH range: 6.0–7.5
Fertiliser: Apply a balanced fertiliser every 2–3 weeks during active growth.
Avoid excessive nitrogen, which encourages lush foliage at the expense of flower production.
💧 Watering
Keep evenly moist during establishment.
Once established, plants are drought tolerant and perform best when allowed to dry slightly between waterings.
Avoid waterlogged soils, as plants are susceptible to crown and root rot.
✂️ Harvesting & Post-Harvest
Harvest stage: Harvest when flower sprays are fully coloured and the tiny flowers are just beginning to open.
Stem length: 60–90 cm ideal for bouquets.
Post-harvest:
Remove lower foliage.
Place immediately into clean water with floral preservative.
Vase life is typically 10–14 days.
Excellent for drying—hang stems upside down in a dark, dry, well-ventilated area to preserve their colour and form.
