GYPSOPHILIA PEARLS GINGA
These are grown from cuttings not seed.
Life Cycle:It is a short-lived herbaceous perennial. In cooler regions it can live for several years. In warmer, humid climates it is often grown as an annual or short-term crop because heat, humidity, and disease can reduce its longevity.
Use: Cut flower, airy filler, bouquet volume, fresh and dried arrangements
Height: 70–100 cm
Spacing: 20–30 cm between plants
Staking - Use 15-20cm support mesh or corralling to support
Pinching - No
Transplant to finish: 12–16 weeks
Transplant carefully to avoid disturbing the roots. Pinching is generally not required but may encourage additional branching.
Photoperiod: Facultative long-day—longer days promote faster flowering and increased stem production.
Exposure: Full sun (6–8+ hours daily)
Frost: Established plants are frost tolerant. Protect young seedlings and new transplants from heavy frosts until well established.
🌾 Soil & Fertility
Soil: Well-drained, light, fertile loam or sandy soil
pH range: 6.5–7.5
Fertilizer: Apply a balanced fertiliser every 2–3 weeks during active growth.
Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can produce soft stems and reduce flower quality.
💧 Watering
Keep evenly moist during establishment.
Once established, allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Avoid overwatering, as Gypsophila is susceptible to root diseases in wet soils.
✂️ Harvesting & Post-Harvest
Harvest stage: Harvest when approximately 30–50% of the tiny flowers on each spray are fully open.
Stem length: 60–90 cm ideal for bouquets.
Post-harvest:
Strip lower foliage.
Place immediately into clean water with floral preservative.
Vase life is typically 7–14 days.
Excellent for drying—hang bunches upside down in a dark, well-ventilated area until completely dry.
